an email update from Keith Miller

...I haven't been very good about updating everyone on my racing exploits, so I figured I would drop a line to y'all.

Since late March its basically been a good amount of racing and lots and lots of training. Here's the USA Today Version of things since then, as opposed to the NY Times versions:

Lots of NYC racing, Central Park, Prospect Park, a few flat tires, a few top 10's, thankfully no crashes, and more than a few cold and rainy mornings.

Did a Time Trial in NJ, and it flurried on me, thought I had gone well but the results told me to "think again." The next day was a disaster of a race in way South Jersey with a 2 miles "beach" section, I was like a fish out of water and packed it after 20 miles.

Headed to Delaware for the FLATTEST races you've ever seen in your life, but the winds more than made up for a lack of hills. The Circuit race was fast and aggressive and I missed the move, the 102 mile RR the next day was a constant fight for that elusive one inch of road that offered a modicum of draft from the rider ahead of you.

Last weekend was 2 days of racing in Prospect Park, Sat. was a disaster from the get-go. I sat in traffic at 5-30am (gotta love the tri-state area), all the while 880am betrayed me, with my "Traffic and weather together on the 8's" by telling me there was clear sailing everywhere! Barely make it to the start on time, get a flat right before the start, Mark B, hooks me up with a wheel, race begins, feeling good, 9miles later BAM! hit a pothole and get another flat, stop in the city for Breakfast with my boyz James and Scott and go home and go back to bed! Sunday wake up for another Prospect, I wasn't planning on racing given my big engagement bash that day, but I had unfinished business from the day before. In the end I had great legs and was driving a break that got caught with 2 miles to-go because the wankers I was with were pretty worthless.

This past weekend was the 1st foray into New England for traditional "go from the gun" racing. For the 1st time all yr. we had a squad assembled on the East coast for the Palmer and Monson races, me, Nat, Eneas, Alex, Mark, and Matt started the 80 mile RR and the first lap was like a grenade went off, attacks left, right and center. In the end a group four away and we only had Alex in it, so we wanted to get more guys across. Up the only hill of the day, I pulled hard to close the gap to 30 seconds, hoping Nat could then jump across, but that didn't work. Then in the end they stopped the field from sprinting due to a crash in another categories race. Yesterday was Monson, maybe it should be called "Monsoon" because it was COLD and POURING, after I slathered my legs with heat rub like Emeril basting a turkey we started. The obligatory attacks came and went and I was quite warm and feeling good. Nat got away on the final lap with a small group and I camped on the front to slow things down, he ended up 4th for the day.

May is now upon us, which means, Jiminy Peak, Bear Mtn., Housatonic and Sommerville, let's get it on!

Thanks for reading.

Keith
